Ho-Bit installation

ho bit jig information sheet

* PFS recommends using a 7014 x 3/32 rod, although many choose to use a mig welder

Alternative Ho-bit Installation Methods

Many customers choose to make their own jigs to install Ho-bit spoons based usually on volume of the work needed to be done.  Here are some examples.

Removing Rivets and Replacing Bearings

Our Rivet Removal Jig is a simple block of steel with properly spaced holes and a recessed area for the bearing flange to sit when hammering out the rivets of your rotary hoe wheel.

The head of the rivets will need to be ground flush on one side of the wheel in order to have a place to put the point of a air punch to hammer out the rivets.

Once the rivet heads are flush with the bearing flange, they can be hammered out.  PFS recommends a long piston pneumatic air hammer with some sort of punch to push the old rivets through.

It is sometimes necessary to spot weld, in a few locations, under where the flange was located to keep your rotary hoe wheel fingers from moving around.  First get the fingers where you want them, then spot weld (PFS recommends 6011 for good penetration) in about 4 spots, and then grind flush.

Final step is to replace bearing and use hardware to reassemble the bearing flange.
